Vague Talk

How much anonymity does the web afford us?  Not much.  In the old days, you could put a bandana on your face and rob a bank and you might stay anonymous for awhile.  Nowadays we leave a digital fingerprint wherever we go.

So what does that mean to us?  It means that someone could get lucky, just as the children flipping two random tiles of seventy-two in the “memory game” get a lucky match every once in a while.  Someone could match this online sheep to this online human one day.

Currently, there are four humans that know how this sheep matches this man.  That’s not including any FBI, CIA, NSA, CSIS, RCMP, or other unknown organization’s personnel.

Normally, I would not care.  I’m not overly embarrassed about the time I yelled and swore in a Future Shop store.  I’m not too concerned if someone doesn’t agree with my stance on carrying umbrellas or wearing Wellies.

Some realities are just too personal and they require anonymity.  They can be disguised in a quatrain in the style of Nostradamus.  Or they can be hidden in the Library of Babel.

    1. Wellies is not so much a Canadian term, but the brand name of those “designer” rain boots. I think it’s short for Wellingtons.

The library excludes most punctuation because their algorithm calculates all possible combinations of the letters and characters they include. So too many characters would mean too many possible combinations. To keep it reasonable, they chose to exclude a bunch of stuff.

Always glad to keep you up to speed on what is going on here. Hope all is well down there with you.
